Attend an evening of hands-on science to learn about the University of Reading's proposed research at Sonning Farm, investigating whether we can brighten clouds, to help cool our climate. Entry will be free and refreshments are provided. Attendees will be able to view demonstrations, ask questions about the research and share feedback to help shape the work. Tickets on sale for the Pearson Hall Xmas Dinner to be held on Sat 5th December at 7pm. Ticket sales 1000-1200 on Saturday 14th November at Pearson Hall. £30 per ticket for a 3 course dinner plus seasonal entertainment and raffle. Maximim four tickets per person.

Sonning & the Thames Revisited - same old or something new?

In April 2025, Sonning resident Richard Caines gave a talk about the river Thames and the efforts being made to improve its current state of health. 18 months on, are things better or worse? Who is testing the quality of the water and what do the results tell us? How did Pangbourne fare in its first year as an officially designated inland bathing water? And what of Thames Water?
Most of the work being done to protect the Thames is being done by volunteers who care about it. Richard will focus on those volunteer efforts - and what Sonning residents can do to help. Whether you get in it, walk alongside it, float on top of it, paint it, study it or any other activity linked to it, come and learn how you can support efforts for a healthier river.
A marine biologist by training, Richard is a Senior Director at WWF International (but will be talking in a personal capacity).
